One selects a setting, and a cast, then uses a simple set of point-and-click tools to turn lines of dialogue into shots…

Your correspondent’s maiden effort (the work of three or four minutes… but rather poignant, if he does say so himself):

As we muse on our motivation, we might recall that it was on this date in 1949 that the first daytime soap opera, These Are My Children, debuted on NBC. The show was only 15 minutes long, lasted only two months and looked not altogether unlike the clip above.

These Are My Children was created by “The Queen of the Soap Opera,” Irna Phillips, who went on to create and produce Another WorldAs the World TurnsDays of our Lives, The Brighter Day, and Guiding Light, among others.  Production values improved steadily.
