Greetings from the Snapping Turtle State!
The Snapping Turtle is the State Reptile of New York State (where your correspondent is typing this missive)… who knew? Well, now one can know– the reptiles, bushes, fish, and all official state symbols of all 50 United States– simply by consulting State Symbols USA.
As we vow to collect ’em all, we might recall that it was on this date that Douglas Corrigan, who’d just flown in from Long Beach, took off from Brooklyn. He’d filed a flight plan to return to California, but flew the “wrong way” to Ireland. Many suspect that Corrigan, an experienced aviator, knew exactly where he was headed; but he never admitted as much– and has ever after been known as “Wrong Way” Corrigan.
