Another Man’s Shoes…

From reader JO:

This just in from a Turkish anthropologist friend:

The shoes that were thrown at Bush in Baghdad were “made in Istanbul”. The manufacturer has become a rich man. He has had orders for 300,000 pairs from all over the world! He has had to employ 100 new workers at his factory.

As we loosen our laces, we might recall that this was the date of the first recorded performance of Shakespeare’s King Lear (1606)

Men must endure
Their going hence, even as their coming hither:
Ripeness is all.

– Edgar, Act V, Scene ii

Title page of the first quarto edition (1608)
