Sad Guys on Trading Floors

As we obsess over our 401-Ks, we might sing a birthday aria to Giuseppe Verdi, the Italian romantic composer– and creative superstar– born on this date in 1813. A musical child prodigy (he became a church organist at the age of seven), Verdi wrote operas (e.g., RigolettoIl Trovatore , and  La Traviata) so popular that he commanded higher fees than any other composer of his time.
