As we practice our patter, and brace ourselves for the summer’s onslaught of blockbuster thrillers, we might recall that it was on this date in 1908 that the first horror film shown in the U.S., Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, written by George F. Fish (following closely the play by Richard Mansfield), and directed by Otis Turner, premiered in Chicago. Sadly, no prints nor stills seem to have survived…
