In this Age of Photo Shop, it’s harder and harder to know whom– or what– to trust.  Helpfully, a primer from Scientific American outlines “5 Ways to Spot a Fake Photo.”

As we fire up our airbrushes, we might build a birthday tribute to John Smeaton, designer of bridges, canals, harbors and lighthouses, and “the father of civil engineering”; he was born on this date in 1724.
