I love Paris in the summer, when it sizzles…
Too late for Cole Porter, but not for you, Dear Readers: a new accommodation option in Paris, The Everland Hotel (a project of Swiss artists Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann)… or at least until the end of 2008, when it continues the journey that’s taken it to Burgdorf, Yverdon on the shore of Lake Neuchatel, and Leipzig… The Paris view– from atop the Palais de Tokyo– is a killer.
But hurry, the rooms…er, the room, goes fast.
As we reach for our phrase books, we might recall with a shudder that it was on this date in 1536 that Anne Boleyn, the second wife of Henry VIII of England and mother of Elizabeth I, was beheaded after being convicted on (patently trumped-up) charges of witchcraft, incest and adultery. Henry took his third wife, Jane Seymour, the following day. Anne died refusing a blindfold; her last words: “The executioner is, I believe, very expert; and my neck is very slender.”
